Created by Hazeldown School Eco Committee with T.R.A.I.L. Artists

The Hazeldown School Eco Committee worked with T.R.A.I.L. artists to create a vibrant underwater scene as part of this year’s T.R.A.I.L. sculpture exhibition.
Over 30 students, from Years 1 to 6, spent a full creative day following a structured workshop plan. Together, they explored the theme of biodiversity in our oceans and learned about how textile waste impacts the environment.
The final artwork is a stunning textile collage on a repurposed wooden bed base, depicting:
- Bright coral reefs,
- Colourful fish,
- A majestic sea turtle, and
- A textured sea bed, all made entirely from recycled scrap fabrics.
Students began by sorting through donated fabrics, discussing textures and colours, and then worked in teams to create the different elements of the collage. Each group contributed to sections of the scene, layering and glueing pieces to bring the underwater world to life.
This collaborative piece not only celebrates marine biodiversity but also highlights the importance of reusing materials and reducing textile waste.
Now proudly displayed as part of the T.R.A.I.L. environmental art exhibition.
