The Sea Remembers

Created from a reclaimed dining table, discarded wood scraps and coral reused from previous sculptures, this sea turtle brings together materials that already carry stories of their own.
Colourful elements originally created as part of a collaborative live sculpture-making project have also been reclaimed and reimagined here, allowing one creative experience to flow into another.
Solar-powered lights bring the sculpture to life as daylight fades, a reflection on reuse, our connection with the sea, and the value of what we might otherwise leave behind.
Nothing here began as a turtle. Very little needed to become waste.

NESS & SEA is a creative partnership rooted in making, craftsmanship and a shared connection to the coast.
Bringing together art, design and traditional joinery, we create original work that sits somewhere between the practical and the unexpected — from bespoke timber pieces and creative commissions to sculpture, installations and collaborative projects.
Based by the sea in Teignmouth, Devon, our work is influenced by the materials, character and landscape around us. We value thoughtful design, skilled hands, reclaimed and natural materials, and finding creative possibilities in things that might otherwise be overlooked.
Some projects begin with an artistic idea. Others begin with a practical need. Often, the most interesting ones are a little of both.
We’re open to commissions, collaborations and interesting ideas. Whether you have something fully formed in mind, the beginnings of an idea, or simply a space, material or problem that needs a creative approach, we’re always happy to explore what might be possible.
From one-off pieces to larger creative projects, we enjoy working with individuals, organisations, businesses and other makers to turn ideas into something tangible.
